  • 300 g self - raising flour
  • 175 g brown sugar
  • 275 g butter
  • 800 g canned apple ( home brand is fine)
  • 1 tspn ground cinnamon
  • .5 x juice of a lemon
  • 1 Tbls brown sugar


This simple family recipe is as follows:
Combine the apple, ground cinnamon , sugar and the juice of half a lemon and put aside to allow the flavours to mix.
Combine the flour, sugar and butter to form a crumbly mixture.
In a baking dish, a ceramic dish measuring 9″ x 6″ (220mm x 150mm) would be ideal, crumble a third of the mixture evenly over the bottom of the dish.
Spread the apple mixture evenly among and over the crumble mixture so to cover all.
Spread the balance of the crumble mixture in small clumps over the apple mixture.
Bake at 190C oven or 150C in fan forced oven for 25 minutes.
The finished dish should be a golden brown crumble over the apple.

It can be served hot or cold with ice cream of whipped cream, as you prefer.
