Ingredients

  • 500 g breast fillets (cut to bite size )
  • 1 x medium red onion ( sliced )
  • 30 g butter
  • 1 Tbls oil
  • 2 -3 Tbls herbs & garlic seasoning ( from iga supermarket )
  • 2 -3 Tbls sweet paprika
  • 3 cloves garlic(crushed)
  • 3 Tbls corn flour mixed with water
  • 150 ml water
  • 1 x bread roll (cut to cubes )
  • 500 g plain flour
  • 1 tspn salt
  • 14 g instant dry yeast (disolve in 100 ml lukewater )
  • 100 x water
  • 1 x bread roll (cut to cubes )
  • 2 x eggs(lightly beaten just with fork) )
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 1 pinch extra salt

Method

1)In saucepan heat butter and oil on medium heat.Add onion and fry 5 minutes.Add meat and brown,add paprika,stir and pour in water.Cook until the meat is softer.Make sure your still have at lease 1 litter of liquid in saucepan.Add garlic,herbs,salt and pepper and corn flour mixed with water.Pour in half,stir and see how thick is.If is still sauce running pour more corn flour with water and make it thicker.Taste and see,if anything need to be added.

DUMPLINGS

1)In bowl mix flour and salt.In another small bowl dissolve yeast with 100 ml water,then add to flour.Add eggs and bread rolls and make dough.If dough is running put ….bit of flour,but not to much.Cover with tea towel and leave on warm spot to rise up.Dust bench with flour,divide the dough in to 3 pieces and knead again,but gently and create dumplings.Again leave on bench 15 minutes to rise up.

2)In deeper saucepan put water and vegetable steamer and bring to boil.Transfer the dumplings in,but make sure they not sitting in water.Reduce heat and cook the dumplings about 20 minutes.(depend how big are)

3)When they cooked bring them on bench,prick each with wooden skewer and quickly cut with sewing cotton.( cut circle)Serve with goulash.

PS.If you don’ want make it dumplings,serve with cooked rice,pasta or potatoes or with fresh bread rolls.It go well with all of that.

        • hmmm this tempts me, but a whole chicken and a sour dough dumpling would be my adaptations as well as find out what herbs are in the IGA mix. Sometimes a whole food locavore ethic is a pain lol … will keep you posted on how it goes … thnx for the inspiration
