Ingredients

  • 2 kg sweet tomatoes
  • 2 x fresh beetroots (peeled chopped )
  • 1 kg apples (peeled,cored,chopped )
  • 1/2 kg brown oniom (peeled,chopped )
  • 8 cloves garlic (whole )
  • 400 g caster sugar
  • 6 x cloves
  • 6 x large bay-leaves (dry )
  • 4 -6 tspn salt
  • 6 x black peppercorns
  • 250 ml white vinegar

Method

1)The tomatoes cut very gently just the skin on top,make cross,put them into deep saucepan,cover with water and bring to boil.When you see the skin come off take them from stove,pick up them and leave to cool.When cool peel it.

2)In deep saucepan cook apples add peeled tomatoes,beetroot,onion,garlic,sugar,cloves,bay-leaves,peppercorns,salt and vinegar.Cook on medium heat for about 30 minutes then pick up bay-leaves,clove and peppercorns.Strain the mixture through sieve and if some pieces left,put them back into mixture and with hand blender make nice and smooth mixture.

3)Put that again on stove,bring to boil,then take off and fill up clean jar.Put the lid on,turn upside down and leave until cold.

PS.I made this lasts year, keep it unopened in pantry and still is perfect.

  • Snjezana you ask me,if I buy this in shop?NO! you can see different lids on.I make this when we have to much tomatoes and same I did with oranges. And congratulation to you.I will hold the fingers cross for you to,because all of the BHC are good,so good luck.

    • Snjezana yes I think I miss understand you,so,so sorry.The tomato sauce I use when I make spaghetti bolognaise or on pizza topping etc…it is very handy when you have this in your pantry.

      • Snjezana the taste of homemade tomato sauce is little bit different,but nice and is little bit runny.I don’t know what is in the bottles from shop,because the tomato sauce is thicker.Sorry I am writing again about it.I you nervous?when you go for cooking?
