  • 1 L lukewarm water
  • 6 tspn dry yeast
  • 1700 g plain flour
  • 2 Tbls sugar
  • 2 Tbls salt
  • 1 x egg (lightly beaten into egg wash)
  • 1/2 cup poppy seeds (or preferred topping)

Pour the water into a bowl and add the yeast, stir until dissolved.

Add flour, salt and sugar and mix for about 10 minutes in a mixer. Set a side for 20 min.
Divide the dough in 15 pieces and make into rolls. Let rest for another 10 min. Push a finger through each roll to make the hole (should be about 2-3 cm). Let them rise for 25 min. Set the oven on 250 degrees.

Boil water in a big pot, add a bit of sugar and carefully put the bagels in. Turn the heat down and let them boil for about 1 minute on each side.

Place the bagels on a baking tray, brush with the egg wash and dip in poppy seeds. Put the tray in the oven and turn it down to 220 degrees. Bake for 20 minutes or until golden.

Too easy!
