Ingredients

  • 1 x 18.25-oz.) package triple chocolate cake mix, baked as directed and cooled
  • 1 x container (24.20 oz) ready-to-eat cheesecake filling (i found this in the refrigeratio section of my grocery store)
  • 1 cup grated bittersweet chocolate
  • 1/2 cup butter softened
  • 8 x ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 3-1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tspn real vanilla extract
  • 2/3 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 1 x (12-oz.) jar "dulce de leche" caramel sauce

Method

DIRECTIONS:
Bake cake as directed per package instructions and set on wire rack to cool. Chill cooled cake (wrap it up in plastic wrap first please) for at least 1 hour, or up to 24 hours. (This step also enables you to cube up the cake with ease.) Using a serrated knife, slice baked chilled chocolate cake into 1 inch cubes.

Place cake cube layer in the bottom (using about 1/3 of the cake cubes for each layer) of a pretty trifle bowl and put spoonfuls of ready-to-eat cheesecake filling on top and then drizzle with “Dulce de Leche” caramel sauce and then sprinkle with grated bittersweet chocolate, repeating this same procedure with remaining cake cubes.

Make cream cheese topping: Mix the cream cheese, vanilla and butter with an electric mixer until light and creamy. Gradually beat in the powdered sugar until smooth. In a separate bowl, beat the heavy whipping cream until stiff peaks form. Fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese-butter mixture and whip to combine (don’t over mix or the topping will become too stiff). This topping should be smooth and creamy

To finish, pour topping over the last cake cube layer and then drizzle with the Dulce de Leche caramel sauce over the topping and sprinkle with the rest of the grated bittersweet chocolate.

If desired, make this dessert ahead of time needed and chill until ready to serve with making sure that you store any leftovers in a refrigerator.
